Deconstructing Stigma In Mental Health: A Beginner’s Mind Approach
This interactive workshop will identify and discuss stigma surrounding mental health and wellness. Participants will explore the foundational nature of stigma, its impact on mental health and seeking help, and how to challenge stigmatizing behaviors and attitudes with a Beginner’s Mind. They will also practice tools and strategies to reduce stigma within their own lives, their communities and promote understanding and support for those experiencing mental health challenges.
Key concepts that will be addressed in this workshop will include:
Understanding and defining stigma, and why it exists in the home, the workplace, and in various cultural backgrounds.
Discussing the impact of stigma surrounding mental health has on the mind and body.
Challenging stigmatizing attitudes and building empathy around mental health.
Setting and Adhering to boundaries regarding mental health and wellness.
Implementing strategies to reduce stress regarding seeking help for mental health and wellness and ways to create and foster strong coping skills for life’s challenges.
The Mental Health Connection Between Food and Mood: Part I
This session is a three-hour presentation on the connection between nutrition and mental health. This workshop will focus on the connection between food and mood and the power of food on mental health and wellness.
Participants will enhance their knowledge of understanding food labels and learning about ingredients that make up packaged and processed food. They will also explore ways to incorporate food groups that help to boost energy, revitalize and stabilize mood, and improve sleep and clarity. This session will also address how various foods, chemicals, and additives can be detrimental to health and wellness, and increase symptoms of anxiety, depression, fatigue, weight gain, and lethargy.
The ultimate goal of this session is to promote self-awareness. Participants will learn strategies and techniques that support other aspects of mental health including stress reduction, movement, sleep, routines, connection, and life purpose.
The Mental Health Connection Between Food and Mood: Part II
This session is a three-hour interactive workshop is a follow up to the Part I session. This workshop will provide a deeper dive into the concepts presented in the Part I session.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and talk specifically about areas they feel they need to know more about. They will also gain a deeper understanding about how specific foods enhance or interfere with the connection between nutrition and mental health and wellness. This workshop will also introduce and explore how environmental toxins, pesticides, mold exposure, and chemicals take a toll on the mind and body. The ultimate goal of this session is to promote self-awareness and help participants make informed choices in various aspects of life.
Participants will practice strategies and techniques that support the following pillars of mental health and wellness: Nutrition, stress reduction, movement, sleep, routines, connection, and life purpose.
